Habibatou Yaye Keita

Her passion for visual arts led her to pursue studies at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Multimédia of Bamako, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 2020.

Biography

Her interest in traditional headpieces, particularly the art of braiding, deeply influences her artistic work. This fascination has inspired her to dedicate an entire series of painted canvases, into which she incorporates woven wool, materializing her desire to promote this cultural heritage, which is gradually disappearing in favor of Western fashion trends.Using self-portraiture, the artist stages herself in carefully composed and sometimes daring poses, where color and the technique of pointillism illuminate the female body, which she seeks to magnify. Her artistic approach serves a dual purpose:
  1. Highlighting the beauty of her subjects to challenge societal perceptions of them.
  2. Restoring confidence to individuals who have been, and still are, too often marginalized.
As a founding member of the Sanou’Arts collective, Habibatou Yaye Keita actively participates in creative workshops and exhibitions. She has notably taken part in:
  • The 4th edition of RIPO in Ouagadougou,
  • “Pacte Mali” exhibition at Galerie Médina (2020),
  • Several group exhibitions at Siif’Art (2019–2022),
  • “Mali Bougou” exhibition, part of the OFF program of the Dakar Biennale (2022).
